Luke 10:19-22.It is more important our unity with Jesus than anything else. When our hearts are in perfect tune then we can have confidence before God. It is more important than casting out evil spirits, but it brings the casting-out of evil spirits. Greater is He that is in you than the power of Satan. …

Who Needs the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

This is a powerful teaching on why we should all desire the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It’s in the form of a parable the Lord gave me called the Parable of the Microwave!

It’s been too long that many of us in the church have misunderstood, feared, neglected, or even refused to hear and teach on what scripture says about the immersion (Baptism) of the Holy Spirit. But I assure you, God desires that all believers then and now should know the truth about the power of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit for all believers. That truth began on that day of Pentecost and has not ended.

For decades I struggled to to understand this topic because of misunderstandings. I also followed some famous theologians who gave messages against the direct writings of what Jesus and his disciples taught on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues. I resisted it for years, until one day I had an encounter with Jesus, where His clear audible voice was urging me to stop resisting His will, and start speaking in tongues.

Besides my initial conversion to Christianity back in 1991, this alone has been the most life transforming gift I have ever received and has resulted in a walk with the Lord like I never imagined possible. I went to five different churches and denominations over 45 years and not one church class, nor preacher taught on the subject of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, yet Jesus Himself told us what would be possible with this “power from on high”!

Don’t miss this message- your destiny will take on new strength, meaning, and purpose!

May God bless you!

The Gift of Tongues – Smith Wigglesworth

“Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue, speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries” (1 Cor. 14:1, 2). It is necessary that we have a great desire for spiritual …

Depression Instantly Cast Out – Joy of Jesus fills his heart!

Spirit of Depression Cast Out!

We met this homeless man Jose on the streets of Springfield on Sunday. After speaking with him and giving him some food and supplies, our team with my wife Laury, Mike Ermold, and Pastor Bob Olmstead from Lighthouse Church asked if we could bless him through prayer.

As we we praying, all his depression left and he was filled with joy. Jesus is so real to us because He constantly reveals Himself like this when we pray. Holy Spirit who lives in us wants to demonstrate His Power and Love to the lost, and set the captives free.

This is the simplicity of the Gospel. When miracles like this happen, people are looking for real answers to their problems in life – we point them to Jesus, the only real solution to eternal peace, joy, and fulfillment in life. He is the way, the truth, and the life and worthy to follow. Do you know this man called Jesus? He’s amazing!

“Here in California w/relatives. but the harvest is plentiful elsewhere. While waiting to be picked up for lunch w/a former co-worker, young lady walks by, and I asked her had anyone told how beautiful she was. She just sat down and begin to tell me her story. She at 35 y/o is homeless (she had her belongings in a pillow case). She has an addiction and is in an abusive relationship, plus estranged from her family. I just started sharing Jesus w/her and just loved on her. As I prayed for her she began to cry and laid on my shoulder.

By now my friend and sister in Christ arrives. I explain what’s going on. We end up taking her to lunch. She was hungry. She kept saying thank you. She was not use to being around someone who gives and expects nothing in return.

On the way back to where I’m staying, I knew I was going to let her shower because she was dirty. I waited til all my family left and let her shower. I’m glad my daughter is out of town. She would not take kindly to me having a ‘stranger’ in the house. She’s sleeping right now. She told me she hadn’t slept in a couple days (she was sleeping while eating). I’m going to drop her off after my granddaughter comes back, give her a few $$$ (I was blessed w/$100), and thank God for setting Christina free. She told me I had such a Presence which I know is the One who lives w/in me. Yay God”

Addendum to prior post.
“My heart is hurting. Had to wake Christina up after allowing her to sleep almost three hours. She slept hard. She wanted her nails polished. Just happened to have the color she wanted. Blessed her w/couple pair of shoes my daughter just happened to be giving away which was just her size. If didn’t want to have to wake her up. She said it was so peaceful. I had to drop her off, but the day is coming when I will have those homes of refuge and restoration, filled w/many, many good things where they will not have to leave until they have been set free and restored.”

Holy Spirit John G Lake Miracle Healing

John G Lake on Miracles and Healing

John G Lake on Healing

The struggle of the centuries has been to free the soul from narrow interpretations. Jesus has sometimes been made to appear as a little bigot; sometimes as an imposter. The world is still waiting to see him as he is. Jesus the magnificent, Jesus the giant, Jesus the compassionate, Jesus the dynamic-the wonder of the centuries.

Take the shackles off God.

Let him have a chance to bless mankind without limitations. As a missionary I have seen the healing of thousands of heathen. Thus was Christ’s love and compassion for the lost world revealed. And thus the writer was assisted into the larger vision of a world Redeemer whose hand and heart are extended to God’s big world and every man, saint, and sinner, is invited to behold and love Him…….

Healing is by degree, based on two conditions. First, the degree of healing virtue administered. Second, the degree of faith that gives action and power to the virtue administered.

The word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.-Hebrews 4:2

The miracles of Jesus have been the battleground of the centuries. Men have devoted their lives and endeavored to break down Faith in miracles. More believe in miracles today than ever before.

Pseudo-science declares miracles impossible. Yet the biggest men in the scientific world are believers in the supernatural and know that miracles are the discovery, the utilization of which the material scientist knows nothing.

The miracle realm is man’s natural realm. He is by creation, the companion of the miracle-working God. Sin dethroned man from the miracle-working realm, but through Grace is coming into his own.

It’s been hard for us to grasp the principles of this life of faith. In the beginning, man’s spirit was the dominant force in the world. When he sinned, his mind became dominant; sin dethroned the spirit and crowned the intellect.

But Grace is restoring the spirit to its place of Dominion. When man comes to realize this, he will live in the realm of the supernatural without effort. No longer will faith be a struggle, but a normal living in the realm of God. The spiritual realm places man where communion with God is a normal experience. Miracles are then his native breath.

No one knows to what extent the mind and the spirit can be developed. We have been slow to come to a realization that man is a spirit and his spirit nature is his basic nature. We have sought to educate him along educational lines, utterly ignoring the spiritual, so man has become a self-centered, self-seeking being.

Man has lost his sense of relationship and responsibility toward God and man. This makes him lawless. We cannot ignore the spiritual side of man without magnifying the intellectual and the physical. To do this without the restraint of the Spirit is to unleash sin and give it dominance over the whole man. There must be a culture and development of the spiritual nature to a point where it can enjoy fellowship with the father God. It is a above mind, as God is above nature.

Man’s intellect is ever conscious of supernatural forces that he cannot understand. He senses the spirit realm and longs for its freedom and creative power, but cannot enter until changed from self and sin; the spirit enthroned and in action rather than the intellect – spirit above both mind and matter.

The life of God, the Spirit of God, the nature of God, are sufficient for every need of man. In the highest sense of the word, he is “real” Christian who’s body, soul, and spirit alike are filled with the life of God.

Healing in any department of nature, whether spirit, soul, or body is but a means to an end. The object of healing his health, abiding health of body, soul, and spirit. The healing of the spirit unites the spirit of man to God for ever. The healing of the soul corrects psychic disorder and brings the soul processes into harmony with the mind of God. And the healing of the body completes the union of man with God when the Holy Spirit possesses all.

Setting Captives Free by Scott Levesque

Setting Captives Free
By Scott L

For those of us who are believers, Jesus has called us to “be a light in the world”, to set the captives free, and to go out as He did to defeat the works of the devil.

Today I share these two testimonies (below) to bring glory to the name of Jesus because His word says if we fear not, we shall overcome the enemy and set captives free!
“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. (Revelation 12:11)” May each of us grow into a greater revelation of such a divine purpose for our lives’.

Supporting Scriptures:

“Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” ( Matthew 5:15-16) The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, (Isaiah 61:1 & Luke 4:18)

“… God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (ACTS 10:38)

“I am going to send you to the Gentiles, to open their eyes so they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me.” ( ACTS 26:18 )

For two Fridays in a row, I was thrust into the darkest places which I can only describe as “standing in the enemy camp among the fires of hell”.

In both cases, the people involved we literally led out of the captivity of darkness (by the Holy Spirit), into the saving light of Jesus Christ. In both cases, the light of heaven overtook darkness and revealed the love of God to men who had become deceived and stuck in darkness. The Bible says “yet while they were still sinners, God so loved the world he sent His son”. This scripture reveals the very nature of God’s love for  the world but I also believe it is a message for us as followers as well. Since we are His son’s and daughters, we are called to affect the same world by sharing the good news of His love for them, and in doing so use the truth found in Jesus’ finished work to set captives free from oppression, the affects of sin. It sounds complicated but is actually pretty simple if we reduce it all to revealing God’s truth in love.

First testimony:.

In this story, I was at a place of business where I openly shared the love of Jesus several months back with the company vice president, planting seeds of hope for a man clearly tormented by life’s circumstances. Although the gentleman was raised as a Catholic, and attending church, he was living a life oppressed by the difficulties most of us have experienced at times in life. His faith and church attendance did not seem to have him walking in the true joy of his salvation, a place most people don’t believe is possible to experience while we are afflicted. The truth is, we can experience such joy in our walk as demonstrated by Paul himself who was singing while chained in prison, when we are truly set free with truth.

My friend at the time was open and appreciative when I shared the truth of God’s love for him, and helped him understand just how to walk in such ways that he had never heard or experienced before. I tried to explain that much of the turmoil he was experiencing was common for all of us in life, but that the turmoil doesn’t have to rob our peace. Scripture says we will all experience tribulation – we don;t have to look far to know we are in the middle of a war for souls here on earth, and often we each can face significant difficulties at times.

One of our greatest misunderstandings as believers, is that we often allow such difficulties to define our relationship with God. What we often fail to perceive is that such difficulties are only the enemy trying to separate us from the love of Jesus, and take our eyes off God and off our true destiny. The devil actually uses tribulation in life as “an intentional distraction”, knowing most believers will simply become so crushed much by the weight of difficulties, we’ll take our eyes off God and try to exist by our own means. Once the enemy gets us isolated that place, isolated and filled with self pity, we then will often come to a place where in misunderstand the source of trouble, and we begin to curse God for allowing such events to take place. The devil is simply a con artist who knows how to subtly twist truths in life to turn our hearts from God. Repentance in it’s purest form, is simply learning how to “turn our hearts” back to God when face with such deceptions in life. This is why Jesus said, “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”.

I simply shared some these words of life and encouragement of the Gospel with my friend and told him “don’t buy the lie, it’s the enemy trying to keep you from God”!  He got it, and seemed to be touched and understood the truth in my words….at that time, he looked like a light went off in his head and he then profusely thanked me for taking the time to shed some light on his troubles. I believe he experienced his first taste of the freedom of Jesus’ message for us, similar to a captive being set free from bondage.

Fast forward four months, and this same gentleman recognizing truth in what I shared in the fall, now asked me if I would pray for him for some of his recent struggles. We went into a private location, and he began to share with me how he was now recognizing the voice of the enemy trying to deceive him with turmoil and feelings of offense, especially regarding his wife, yet he couldn’t seem to stop the voices and feelings. He said he felt so tormented, angry, and depressed over the past several months, and felt somewhat stuck in it all. But he also mentioned that through each tribulation, he could hear my voice reminding him that the enemy was simply at work trying to deceive him from truth, and keep him from God,  in the middle all of the chaos. For anyone to get this part, is actually really good progress and the first step to getting set free from the negative affects of difficulties in life.

As out time continued, my friend shared the difficult details with me how his addiction to pornography had led him into such a dark emotional place, that he asked his wife to participate in unthinkable acts. His mind had become so deceived by the lusts of pornography, that it entered his marriage like a cancer ready to kill. Through pornography, his marriage clearly became ensnared by the enemy, which led to even greater acts of sin and darkness, which also led the marriage to a very dark  place. We should never forget, the job description of the devil is to “kill, steal, and destroy”, and if we don’t guard our hearts and become deceived by the lusts of the flesh and the world, we lose our focus on God and then provide “the foothold” for the enemy to deceive us…..and he (the destroyer) will happily oblige to step up to the task. Scripture says it’s the goodness of God that leads a man to repentance. When men truly begin to lay hold of this truth, and see just how good life can be walking closer to God, then sin no longer has the same allure, and these same men who were actively sinning, begin to walk a more pure life with greater joy. It is true freedom in life.

I have to admit, just listening to the story was a shock to me as I was seeing and smelling the horrible affects of darkness within a man so deceived by sin that he was completely ensnared, and broken to the point of losing his marriage. I live a really simple life these days, far from the influences of the world, fiercely protecting my heart from such worldly lusts, and I had forgotten just how harsh the world can be when living a deceived life, following the ways of this world that many folks believe to be harmless. I am so thankful that there is another way we can live, free from bondage, rooted and grounded in the life of Jesus, rooted and grounded in peace and love, overflowing with joy. I am so thankful I have been restored!

Well, the end of the story is that I simply spent about 45 minutes “loving the lost” and “ministering truth” bringing light into the dark places of deception deep within his misunderstandings. I simply took time to help him see clearly and separated darkness from light in his life. I shared what Jesus taught about “love keeping no account of wrongs”, and how if he was truly born again, he is now a child of God, and a citizen of heaven, no longer born of the family of Adam who belong to this world. who are helpless to sin. I revealed that as a child of God, he is no longer subject to the bondage of sin nor it’s affects. Jesus died to remove the bondage of sin that this man was suffering, but no one had taken the time to tell him that fact. (dead to sin, alive to Christ Rom 6:11) Often, simply understanding that we are now new creations in Christ can set many people free who were/are stuck in bondage and believe they are still old creations of this world. Knowing our identity can often set Christians completely free! (check out my article on “Was Jesus really the death of sin in my life?” )

We prayed together for redemption, forgiveness, and restoration, and by faith I know God heard our prayers and the Holy Spirit will help set this man and his marriage free from sin and the bondage of offense and deception. He already shared with me that he no longer watches pornography! Where there is a will, there is a way with God!

The Bible says “the power of life and death is in the tongue”…I really understand that now that now I’ve seen countless people set free in the past two years, simply through explaining truth and releasing blessings in their lives with the power of faithful prayers. When we begin speaking “Kingdom life”, truth, and God’s purposes into their souls, it works in agreement with God’s desires and releases the power of the Holy Spirit to restore lives. It’s far greater than seeing the affects of positive verses negative thinking, it’s actually bringing heaven to earth!  God is a God of life and a God of Love, and He has called us who are His children, to use our voices (through love) to set the captives free who do not understand the real freedom we can attain from sin, simply by knowing we are children of God, guarding our hearts, and most importantly, surrendering our thoughts, our will, and our lives to Jesus, so that He can transform us into His holy people and bring more of heaven, into a dark world.

Some need more teaching than others, but there is always hope for even the darkest situations with one solution for all, …..that answer is found in Jesus. Let’s run with our destiny, and become the face of love for a lost world!

Part 2

In the second incident, my friend Tom asked if Mike Tiso and I could stop by his neighbor’s house after attending a spirit filled healing service earlier that night. Although we totally immersed in light from such a powerful service, as we walked into the house, I was totally shocked by the atmosphere and the events that began to unfold.

To help further set the stage, Tom had been praying for this house for four years, and he invited us over to meet them for this specific purpose (i.e. “pulling the family out of the flames of deception” which had over-run their lives)….He and Mike just forgot to mention that minor detail to me before entering the house, which felt a bit like walking into the devils playground!

You  may think that sounds naive, but Oh My Gosh… the house was filled with total chaos and it looked a bit like a non-fiction horror movie playing though my eyes. Honestly, it’s hard to fully describe the sense of real darkness we had just stepped in to in a large home filled with six teenage boys. Here’s the scene, four boys were participating in and cheering on, a “staged gladiator fight” between the pet black cat and two mice. They had placed all three in man-made corral, trying to entice the cat to rip apart and eat the poor mice, laughing uncontrollably at the pending death trap! While they were cheering on the fight, one other boy was completely enchanted playing a south park video on a 50” screen while the sound was blaring in our ears 10 feet away. Another boy was playing some really loud drums 20 feet away, and just to round out the picture, the father was singing Karaoke tunes on some other loud speakers! Oh but wait, it wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t share that the oldest  boy who was a neighbor, was showing us his 8” “satanic pentagram” that he had drawn in magic marker, on his stomach! It was total darkness!

None the less,  as the three of us went in (Mike, Tom, and myself) we all knew we were on assignment from God to share the Gospel and the love of Jesus, so we began to minister “truth in love”.

OK if I’m honest, I have to admit it was a bit hard for me at first to adjust and minister in such a place of total darkness, but after seeing Mike Tiso fearlessly thrust himself into the darkness and immediately preaching the gospel to the teenage boys, I knew that game was on! I literally went out of the house, shook off the cobwebs, hit the “reset button” in my head, and went back in a few minutes later with full armor God and a new sense of mission! I came to understand the burden of Tom’s heart for this family, who for four years was setting the stage for this night through his prayers, and I knew as a team our mission was to bring light into this home. And oh what a night began to unfold……

First, Tom get’s us through the gates and makes the introductions, then Mike walks in like a fearless gladiator who instead of taking one step back like I did at first, took three steps forward and entered the lion’s den! Mike took on the teenage boys, while Tom took on the girlfriend, and I eventually connected with the dad. In a short time, Mike was full tilt, sharing the message of salvation with the younger boys. It was astonishing to watch Mike while fire burned within him for these young souls! Pure poetry in action!

All this was happening while the dad watched from a distance. It began inspiring me to go deeper with the father of the boys while Mike was speaking with them so during that time, I was sharing healing testimonies that rocked the dad so much he got goose bumps, so I used those testimonies (as I normally do!) to springboard into God’s love and real message of freedom, helping him understand what Jesus really accomplished, verses “man-made religious doctrines”. By now, the girlfriend had left so Tom began moving back and forth in the house, infusing his words of truth where ever any “dark holes” appeared in the house!!

Well, eventually we all rotated among the residents in the rooms (more than once) and openly ministered the Gospel of God’s love to them from multiple angels for over two and a half hours. It was like we had become three parts of one well oiled machine, pouring out light everywhere we walked and talked! So cool!

When we began, the father of the house was clearly dying inside from such horrific happenings he shared with us that were done against him from his ex wife (who happens to be a witch). For eight years his ex and her husband have been plotting against him in wicked ways attacking him through defamation and trying to harm him in every way to ruin his life and it had been working. She even showed up one night at his front door, in her wedding dress, covered in blood. Tell me the devil doesn’t use deceived people for his puppets. Clearly this man had been tormented for 8 years by demonic forces trying to ruin his life.

But then, Jesus showed up in the form of three men, to help set him and his home free! We ministered truth, we broke strongholds of deception, strongholds of a broken heart, strongholds of a man tormented by the real abuses, we broke curses of a deranged ex-wife who was consuming his thoughts and his heart with bitterness, we broke chains of oppression, and we ministered the peace and love that Jesus died for on the cross, teaching him how to lay it all at down through Jesus. We prayed and prayed more, set this broken man free from torment, and released the Kingdom of heaven in his home. Many may think this to be no more than a theatrical show of good intentions, but I assure you this is all very real in God’s Kingdom. By the end, his face visibly looked like the face of a new man, set free, full of hope for a new life.

It was amazing! Although this assignment wasn’t very tidy (in fact it was pretty stinky at some points) after two+ hours, the entire household was visibly transformed, the teenage boys seemed at peace, light pieced the darkness, and this broken man had his hope in life renewed. At the end of the night, his very words were “it feels like I’ve hit a new turning point tonight!”

Who knew God could use three unlikely men of God, completely unique, each equipped very differently for the Kingdom, ministering gifts to a household like a revolving wheel of light, yet in total unity of purpose to pull this family out of the flames of hell?

It was like walking into the enemy camp, a war zone, and setting captives/prisoners free in the spirit realm, yet it was beautifully poetic as a ballet while the spirit orchestrated every detail!

You just can’t make this stuff up when led by the spirit; following Jesus is indeed an adventure! The Bible says that “some plant, some water, but it is God who gives the increase”…I’m believing that this house is now a reclaimed territory for Jesus, about to produce a lot of fruit for the Kingdom! Amen

Holy Spirit Smith Wigglesworth

Smith Wigglesworth on: Mourning the Dead

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

Read with Smith Wigglesworth had to say about the difference between mourning through our feelings (our flesh) and travailing in the Spirit.

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” People get a wrong idea of mourning. Over in Switzerland they have a day set apart to take wreaths to graves. I laughed at the people’s ignorance and said, “Why are you spending time around the graves? The people you love are not there. All that taking of flowers to the graves is not faith at all.” Those who died in Christ are gone to be with Him, “which,” Paul said, “is far better.”

My wife once said to me, “You watch me when I’m preaching. I get so near to heaven when I’m preaching that some day I’ll be off.” One night she was preaching and when she had finished, off she went. I was going to Glasgow and had said goodbye to her before she went to meeting. As I was leaving the house, the doctor and policeman met me at the door and told me that she had fallen dead at the Mission door. I knew she had got what she wanted. I could not weep, but I was in tongues, praising the Lord. On natural lines she was everything to me; but I could not mourn on natural lines, but just laughed in the Spirit. The house was soon filled with people. The doctor said, “She is dead, and we can do no more for her.” I went up to her lifeless corpse and commanded death to give her up, and she came back to me for a moment. Then God said to me, “She is Mine; her work is done.” I knew what He meant.

They laid her in the coffin, and I brought my sons and my daughter into the room and said, “Is she there?” They said, “No, father.” I said, “We will cover her up.” If you go mourning the loss of loved ones who have gone to be with Christ, I say it in love to you, you have never had the revelation of what Paul spoke of when he showed us that it is better to go than to stay. We read this in Scripture, but the trouble is that people will not believe it. When you believe God, you will say, “Whatever it is, it is all right. If Thou dost want to take the one I love, it is all right, Lord.” Faith removes all tears of self-pity.

But there is a mourning in the Spirit. God will bring you to a place where things must be changed, and there is a mourning, an unutterable groaning until God comes. And the end of all real faith always is rejoicing. Jesus mourned over Jerusalem. He saw the conditions, He saw the unbelief, He saw the end of those who closed their ears to the Gospel. But God gave a promise that He should see the travail of His soul and be satisfied, and that He should see His seed. What happened on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem was an earnest of what will be the results of His travail, to be multiplied a billionfold all down the ages in all the world. And as we enter in the Spirit into travail over conditions that are wrong, such mourning will ever bring results for God, and our joy will be complete in the satisfaction that is brought to Christ thereby.

Heaven or Hell encounter Holy Spirit Salvation

Keeping our salvation: Can we lose it?

Is salvation ours to lose?

Once saved always saved? I realize that’s a pretty controversial topic and you may differ with my viewpoint, but based on what scripture and the Holy Spirit has shown me, this is my opinion.

The Dilemma
If salvation is a gift of Grace, why is it once we are saved, religion teaches us that in order to remain saved, we have to somehow become better people and live to “a new standard of the law”, or we’ll lose our salvation? Why is it so hard for us to believe salvation is a lifetime, lifelong gift freely given to us by the Grace of God and not some kind of “deal” that gets taken from us if we mess up once, twice, or a hundred times?

I struggled with this topic for years an until recently, and if you are like me, often I felt very there has been a “double message” by what the 20th century church as a whole has taught me about my salvation. Scripture says it’s faith that justifies us and brings us to the saving grace of God, through His son Jesus, and not our attempts at following some religious laws or doctrine! (Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”), So if it’s faith and God’s grace that brought us to salvation, wouldn’t it make sense that His grace was large enough to keep us in salvation??….and that you and I no longer have to worry that we’ll somehow lose salvation if we miss living up to a subjective standard of holiness?

The word is very clear on this, that it’s by His grace, through faith we are saved, and not by our works or by upholding the Law of the prophets. Yet it seems everywhere I go, people are feeling oppressed that they aren’t “living up to the law” so to speak as Christians. I see and hear the voice of condemnation everywhere I go in the church.

I think so many of us Christians have bought into “the lie” that Christ got us saved (truth), but once saved we have to sustain our own salvation “through works” and somehow we are required to “live up to the law” as “a perfect Christian” in order to keep salvation.

I found in the past, when I think this way I would ultimately always fall short and end up “feeling” condemned by my own thoughts, or worse by the church. Can anyone of you relate? Yet, we wonder why the church is dying today while filled with such judgement and condemnation! Who want’s to go to church and be reminded of just how short we fall from being perfect Christians? And if we’re honest and listen to what many of the youth today are saying, “who want’s to even be saved if condemnation is the end game for us”?? Where’s the good news of the Gospel Jesus spoke of, in that message? If there isn’t good news drawing our youth to today’s church, then I promise you something is missing from what Jesus intended because everyone was drawn to Jesus’ message of love and forgiveness, except of course the religious elite!

Hey, don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting we use salvation for an excuse to keep sinning. And I’m all for living a holy life growing in Godliness

“Hyper Grace”
Yet in just speaking such words above regarding salvation, I bet some reading this are upset thinking I’m teaching a “hyper Grace” message, ignoring major parts of scripture, and promoting a license for people to just out out and sin without worry or regret.

If that is what you are hearing, then I’m very sorry and I promise you are missing my point and maybe missing even the good news of the Gospel.

I believe scripture is saying that when we start thinking the gift of salvation is too good to be true, and that somehow you and I must do something to keep it, then we are under-estimating the real power in such grace from above. Gods Grace is one of the most powerful forces in this universe and His goodness has the ability to change a mans heart. This grace through faith is so powerful, that it compels a man to repent. When we rely on our own human willpower then we run amiss and we are underestimating the power of the Holy Spirit working within us through conviction (not condemnation). It is the goodness of God that leads us to change (Rom 2:4), and not judgement or condemnation which come from the enemy.

The Great Lie
Here is my point; it seems to me that mans religion tries to teach us that once we are saved, that then we must bear the burden of becoming “sin free” through the “law” of the old covenant and “act” like good Christians to remain saved”.

Somehow we are consciously or subconsciously told “watch out, you better be holy now or you might lose your salvation!” ….as if what Christ did on the cross wasn’t enough to keep us saved and somehow we need to step in to take over by fulfilling the law??

Does anyone else see the implied conclusion that strips the cross of it’s purpose and power with this logic? Think about it, when we are born again and then question whether or not we can lose our salvation, aren’t we really saying God isn’t/wasn’t big enough through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son to cover our sins?

Honestly, do we think our sins are so bad or so large that Jesus, the “spotless lamb of God who took away ALL the sin of the world”, wasn’t enough to remove our personal sin? Or are we saying that we’re so important, that we need to step in and take over for God by adding our works to His work on the cross? I hope all this sounds convicting, because I believe when we start thinking Jesus wasn’t enough to cover our present, past, or future sins, then we have been deceived by the enemy himself. Yes, we all should strive to become more holy, but if it’s about us becoming perfect to remain saved, then we are all doomed. When Jesus came, He alone paid the full price for all of it – past, present, and future until we are fully restored in our glorified bodies!

Deception
If I were the enemy, I’d sure do everything in my power to get you to believe the lie that if you fall short in your walk, you’re in great jeopardy of losing your salvation! Think about the chaos that is created in a person who is feeling uncertain. Enough chaos can also keep you from drawing closer to God in your walk. Folks, I assure you that if you are hearing the voice of condemnation trying to tell you that you can lose your salvation based on your inability to follow the law, then you are hearing a bold lie from the pit of hell…don’t believe it! No one is capable of fully following the law and if you follow the law, you are condemned by the law. If that is where you are at, then I pray you will be set free. Anyone still living by the law is in bondage and needs to be set free by the truth and the real good news of the saving grace of what Jesus did on the cross through the Gospel!

The Truth
If you have been born again and really read what scripture says, then you will find it’s not about what you and I have done (or can do), it’s ALL about what Christ already did and that our sins of yesterday, today, and tomorrow are forgotten as far as the east is from the west (Ps 103:12). It’s so important for us to know that our escape from sin is not found in the law or our works to be perfect, but the our escape from sin is found through our faith in Jesus. It’s that simple.

There is nothing you or I can add to what Jesus already did on the cross 2000 years ago. Salvation is an eternal gift, and unless you were not born again, or unless you puposely curse Holy Spirit, and unless you “deviate from the faith and turn away from their allegiance” (Heb 6:6 – basically telling God that you no longer wish to be saved), then you cannot lose your salvation because your are not fulfilling the right “religious doctrines” or not fulfilling the law, or by not acting like a “perfect christian”. So let’s also not confuse the gift of salvation, with our heavenly rewards for storing up treasures in heaven, and seeking to walk an greater holiness. What we do in our life is very important to God, and there are rewards in heaven for walking in greater holiness, but our salvation is not dependent on our works. I think that is where so many people get lost and fall on the slippery slope of religious works.

The Exceptions
Hebrews 6:6 and the scriptures below, describe the case(s) when a Christian can lose their salvation. After study on these, I’m convinced these are only the rarest of cases of “mature believers” who have fully walked in the gifts of the spirit, fully understand their relationship with God, were fully committed to the Lord, and in a sense, “turned to the dark side”, willfully despising/denying their salvation cursing the Holy Spirit Although I would think it rare, such is the nature of free will – one can always choose to willfully turn down the gift of salvation, even after being saved.

Mark 3:29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” Luke 12:10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

Paul’s Warnings about the Law:
So with that exception aside, Paul warned in several places both in Galatians and in Roman’s against the legalistic/law mindset that taught Christians that in order to “stay saved” we must follow the law. The religious elite at that time, kept trying to tell believers what Jesus did on the cross, wasn’t enough and they needed to do more by following the Jewish law in order to remain saved.

Paul asked them “Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?” Paul is trying to show the Galatians the difference between receiving salvation as a gift of grace verses by our own means of following the law.

The Free Gift
As humans born in a fallen world, somehow it’s so hard for us to believe we could actually get something we never deserved. That just isn’t what the world has taught you and I. So in our lack of understanding, many of us spend a lifetime trying to justify God’s grace through our own works of righteousness by upholding the law, trying to become better believers. In fact, 2000 years ago, the Galatians struggled with this same concept and if we look around most of the church still struggles with this concept, condemning believers (and ourselves) for not being good enough and needing to try harder to become better Christians. But God’s grace is indeed sufficient.

In doing so, we (and the church at large) has/have missed the true gift of freedom Christ gave us in removing the guilt and condemnation placed upon us by trying to live up to the law of the Old Testament. This is what Jesus meant when He said in Matthew 11:30 “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” With 611 laws in the Old Testament, there was nothing easy or light in trying to uphold those laws and although the law of old had an important purpose in History the result was before redemption through Christ’s gift, all fell short and were left with guilt, shame, and condemnation living daily in a state of “sin consciousness” . But if we understand and accept the good news of the Gospel we’ll see, Christ came to free us from such a state of “sin Consciousness”. Galatians 3:13
Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us, for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified). Yes, we have been set free because, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law”! Amen

“The righteous live by faith”
This is really a huge point that many of us (and the church) as a whole miss today as well. Scripture is so clear on this revelation, just read Galatians 3:10 to see my point. 10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”[e] 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.”[f] 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.”[g] 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.”[h] 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Why the Law?
You ask, why then was the law given? Great question and one that Paul addressed in Gal 3:19 Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given to show the world’s desperate need for a savior “the Seed” of Abraham, Christ Jesus.

The Law of Sin and Death
It’s so important for us to remember what Paul tells us on how “the law” could never bring man to a state of righteousness – Gal 3:21 For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.

Freed from the Law
But instead, Paul says “Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin” ( “the law”) meaning that since Christ has come, those who believe by faith have been freed from the law. – Gal 3:22 22 But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.)

Freedom in Christ
You and I truly must understand this, if we are to walk free from the condemnation of sin, and approach the throne of God in petition and prayer with a clear conscience provided by Jesus himself, and not by our works upholding “the law”. Otherwise, we all fall short and deny the very gift of fellowship with our Father because guilt, shame, and condemnation (the works of the enemy) try to separate us from God with a veil of darkness.
(2 Corinthians 3:14
But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.
2 Corinthians 3:15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.)

Too much Grace?
We have been given such a grace and freedom through Jesus to experience the depth of God’s love without the burden of sin staining our relationship with Him. There are far too many believers who worry that a “message of Grace” (or hyper grace) is a ticket to live an “unholy” life by believers. But I say, if we truly born again then it’s His goodness that leads us to repent, and not the blinding judgment of the law. (Romans 2:4 ….Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?) I say, if we love God and are called to his purposes, then it is He who changes us from the inside out by writing His laws upon our hearts, and not from the outside using the “laws of old” referred to as “the law of sin and death”. Heb 10:16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”

The Work of the Cross
Let’s not be deceived, it is He who is doing a great work in each of us by His hand, not by our own hand, not by works, and certainly not by the law…. Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 …. it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe…..

It is the gift of the Father, the great work of Jesus on the cross, and the counsel of our Holy Spirit that has given us the freedom to draw closer in our walk with God, approach Him with a clear conscience, and become transformed by His grace. . Hebrews 12:2 …..looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith….

Believing
So let’s stop trying to become righteous by our own works or by the law and start believing in the righteousness given to us through “grace by faith”. It’s His Grace with our Faith that started this work in us and it is the same Grace with our faith that will conform us into the image of His Son! Does that mean we use Grace an excuse to live unholy or to be lazy in growing our faith or sloppy in our holy habits, no of course not! But let’s start where the cross finished and let’s believe in God’s promises and listen to what Paul is telling us when he says we are “the righteous children of God” and stop believing we are just a bunch of “law breaking, worthless sinners”!

Believing in our value to God as His child, takes us to a whole new plateau in our walk and allows His holiness to enter into us by His amazing Grace. Our faith is the amazing transforming agent that allows God’s Grace to shape us, if we’ll walk by faith and not by the law or our works. Jesus paid the price for you and I to be free and justified with our Father in heaven by His work on the cross, to become “heirs according to the promise”. We need to stop trying to become heirs, since we’ve already become heirs by His work, and not by the law or by our deeds.

Gal 4:4-7
4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.[b] 6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,[c] Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.

Holy Spirit Smith Wigglesworth

Smith Wigglesworth on the Power of the Holy Ghost

Smith Wigglesworth on the Power of the Holy Ghost

So I have within my hands, within my heart, within my mind, this blessed reservoir of promises that is able to do so many marvelous things. Some of you most likely have been suffering because you have a limited revelation of Jesus, of the fullness of life there is in Him.

In Oakland, Calif., we had a meeting in a large theatre. God wrought in filling the place till we had to have overflow meetings. There was a rising tide of people getting saved in the meeting by rising voluntarily up and down in the place, and getting saved. And then we had a riding tide of people who needed help in their bodies, rising in faith and being healed. One of these latter was an old man 95 years of age. He had been suffering for three years, till he got to the place where for three weeks he had been taking liquids. He was in a terrible state. I got him to stand while I prayed for him; and he came back, and with radiant face, told us that new life had come into his body. He said, “I am 95 years old. When I came into the meeting, I was full of pain from cancer of the stomach. I have been so healed that I have been eating perfectly, and have no pain.” Many of the people were healed in a similar way.

(After the telling of the above incident in the meeting in Wellington, New Zealand, where this address was given, a lady arose who had rheumatism in the left leg. After being prayed for, she ran the full length of the hall several times, then testified to partial healing. A young man with pain in the head was healed instantly. Another man with pain in the shoulder was healed instantly also.)

In the second chapter of Acts, you will see that when the Holy Ghost came there was such a manifestation of the power of God that it wrought conviction as the Word was spoken in the Holy Ghost. In the third chapter we read of the lame man healed at the Beautiful Gate through the power of the Spirit, as Peter and John went into the Temple. And in the fourth chapter, we read of such a wonderful manifestation of miraculous power through the Spirit that five thousand men besides women and children became believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. God gives manifestation of His Divine power, beloved, to prove that He is with us. Will you not, right now, open your heart to this wonderful God, and let Him come into your life and make of you all that His infinite love has moved Him to provide in Christ Jesus, and that His infinite power, through the Holy Ghost, has made possible to be wrought in sinful man.
